Plagiocephaly and Torticollis

What to Expect When You Visit Our Physiotherapist

When you bring your baby to us for plagiocephaly or torticollis, we assess head shape, neck range of motion, muscle tightness, feeding and sleeping positions, tummy time tolerance, and gross motor development. Treatment may include gentle stretching, positioning advice, strengthening through play, tummy time strategies, parent education, and monitoring of head shape and movement symmetry. Our goal is to improve neck mobility, encourage symmetrical movement, and support healthy development.

Factors Influencing Recovery Speed

What speeds up recovery

Early Treatment

• Earlier assessment usually improves neck mobility faster. • Parent-led positioning and stretches support daily progress.

Frequent Tummy Time

• Tummy time encourages strength and pressure relief. • Varied positioning helps reduce persistent one-sided preference.

What slows down recovery

Late Presentation

• Established tightness or head-shape change may need longer care. • Severe neck restriction can slow symmetry recovery.

Low Tummy Time Tolerance

• Limited practice can delay strength and motor progress. • Prematurity or developmental delay may also affect recovery speed.

How do we estimate outcomes?

We combine insights from published research, clinical guidelines, practitioner experience, and typical rehabilitation timelines to map out common recovery trajectories. The ranges presented are general estimates only and should not be interpreted as guaranteed results.
